October at a glance: **REMINDER: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11 IS A PA DAY AND MONDAY, OCTOBER 14 IS THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY.**
French: In French, we are continuing to build our vocabulary, introducing places around town and the verb forms of ALLER. We will be working on using the appropriate forms of adjectives in our writing to write an effective description. In reading, we will continue to develop reading strategies to help identify the meanings of unfamiliar words.
Math: We are currently exploring patterns and will connect patterns in tables to data management.

Each student is asked to come up with a survey question for Data Management which will be asked to 3 different age groups (grade 1, grade 4/5, and grade 6/7). They are also asked to think about the following questions based on their questions:
-Is there an element of bias in the question?
-Will the classes/age groups differ from one another in how they respond to the question? Why or why not?
-What might you end up doing with the results of this survey? (Why would you want to know this kind of information?)
English:
They students will be presenting their book talks on Friday and they should be rehearsing them at home.
**Tomorrow is our Cross Country meet for all students on our team. Please make sure your child comes dressed appropriately for the weather (rain or shine) and to be outside the entire day if he/she is on the team. A lunch and snacks will also be needed for the day.**
Friday, October 18:
English: The students are asked to go through their own notes and find 4 words which they have difficulty spelling (these may be words that appear misspelled often in their writing or readers notebooks). Each cycle, I will be providing them with 6 words related to what we are currently studying and they will provide four works of their own to create a more personalized/individualized spelling list. Each student needs to bring me his/her personal list on Monday.

On Friday, the students have their spelling test. They should be reviewing their words tonight and tomorrow night.
**REMINDER - we have pizza lunch at school tomorrow so you can plan accordingly.

Science - bring any materials needed for bridge design/construction tomorrow (Grade 5s)

English - find 4 new words for their personal spelling list for next week

Grade 4: They may choose either side to complete. For an added challenge, I told the grade 4s they could find the mean too (since they participated in that part of the grade 5 lesson). It's not obligatory, though.
Grade 5: They may choose either side to complete.
English: They have their next spelling list, for which the weekly activities are due on Wednesday. The dictation will take place on Friday.
Tuesday, October 29:
Tonight, they have spelling they can finish and prepare their own lines for their drama presentation coming up on Friday.
The Grade 4s need to begin studying their provinces/territories and capital cities for their upcoming quiz on Monday, November 4.
Please ask your child to give you the interview preference sheet which was sent home with them today. Parent/teacher interviews will be taking place on Thursday, November 14 in the evening and Friday, November 15 during the morning.
Progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday, November 12 with your interview confirmation sheet.
